Privacy Policy
This document governs your use of The AI Lab's services and platforms. Please read it carefully.
1. Introduction
The AI Lab ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you visit theailab.org, use our The Global Seal of Trust™ AI certification services, or participate in the AI Trust Council™ membership program.
Questions? Contact us at [email protected].
2. Information We Collect
We collect personal information you voluntarily provide when you express interest in our services, contact us, apply for AI asset certification, or join the AI Trust Council™. This includes: name, email address, and phone number; job title and organization name; AI system details provided during certification applications; payment information (processed securely via third-party processors); and communications and correspondence with our team. We also automatically collect certain information when you visit our website, including IP address, browser type, operating system, and usage statistics.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use information to facilitate and manage AI asset certification applications and audits; administer AI Trust Council™ membership benefits and governance participation; send administrative information and marketing communications (where consent has been obtained); enforce our Terms of Service and legal obligations; and conduct research and improve our certification standards. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
4. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)
For users in the EEA, our legal bases include: Contract for processing necessary to provide services; Legitimate Interests for improving services and fraud prevention; Consent for newsletter and SMS communications; and Legal Obligation for compliance with applicable laws.
5. Data Retention
We retain your personal data for as long as necessary to provide our services. Certification records are retained for a minimum of 7 years to maintain AI Trust Registry™ audit integrity. You may request deletion by contacting [email protected], subject to legal retention obligations.
Content classification and transient media retention. When you submit media to be classified for its origin (a probability that it was generated by artificial intelligence), the raw file is queued for processing and retained for a maximum of twenty-one (21) days solely to run that classification, then deleted permanently and completely. Because a single post can contain many files (multiple images, videos, or audio recordings) and larger files take longer to analyze, this short window exists to produce an accurate result rather than a rushed guess. After processing, we keep only the classification result (the AI-generated probability and the origin declaration) and the content's cryptographic fingerprint. The raw file is never published, sold, shared, or stored long-term.
Classifier improvement. Our origin classifier improves over time by learning from processed content and from the outcomes of provenance disputes, so its probability estimates become more accurate as the service matures. This is not a fee or a barrier. A sharper classifier means fewer genuine human works are wrongly flagged as synthetic and fewer AI fakes pass as human, which benefits every creator and the internet as a whole.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, erase, port, object to, and restrict processing of your personal data. Contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.
7. Third-Party Services
We may share your information with third-party service providers (payment processors, email services, cloud infrastructure) who assist in operating our services. All third parties are bound by appropriate data processing agreements.
8. International Transfers
Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence. We ensure such transfers comply with applicable data protection laws, including EU Standard Contractual Clauses where required.
9. SMS Communications
If you opt in to SMS communications, message frequency is 2 to 8 per month. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out at any time. Reply HELP for assistance. See our SMS Opt-In and SMS Opt-Out pages for full details.
