How to protect your digital assets

To protect your digital assets, such as designs, templates, fonts, 3D models, courses and other files you sell or share, register copyright for valuable work, sell under a clear licence, and keep your original files. An NFT records who owns a token on a blockchain, not who made the work it points to.

Then sign each asset on the Trust Identity Protocol (TIP) by The AI Lab, a free, open standard. A signed asset becomes a Verifiable Asset, any piece of digital content that carries a CTID (Content TIP ID), a permanent, signed public record of who made it, when, how it was made, and a fingerprint that shows whether it has changed since.

Every option, honestly

What each way of protecting your digital assets does, and where it stops

These work together. Use more than one, and read the last column for each, including ours.

OptionWhat it doesWhere it stops
Copyright registrationCreates a legal record of ownership.Does not track copies or resales.
Licence termsState how buyers may use the asset.Set terms. They do not detect misuse.
NFTRecords ownership of a token on a blockchain.Proves who holds the token, not who made the work.
Marketplace takedownsRemove a listing you report as copied. One listing at a time.
Trust Identity Protocol (TIP) by The AI LabSigns the work to your verified identity and records when it was made, how it was made (Original Human, AI-Assisted, AI-Generated or Mixed) and a fingerprint of the content, in a public record anyone can check for free.Does not stop copying or AI training, and is not copyright registration. It is evidence of who made the work and whether it has changed.

Step by step

How to protect your digital assets, in order

  1. Keep your original source files.
  2. Sign each asset on TIP before you list or share it, so it becomes a Verifiable Asset.
  3. Sell under a clear licence and register copyright for valuable work.
  4. Link each asset's TIP record from your listing or product page.
  5. When a copy turns up, point the marketplace to your signed record and report the listing.

About TIP

What the Trust Identity Protocol is

The Trust Identity Protocol (TIP) is an open standard from The AI Lab for proving who made a piece of content and whether it has changed. A person verifies once and gets a TIP-ID. Each time they publish, their own device signs the work with a post-quantum signature (ML-DSA-65, NIST FIPS 204), and the TIP Network records the signature, the time, an origin label and a fingerprint of the content. Anyone can check a record for free, with no account.

TIP does not stop copying, does not stop AI training and does not decide whether content is true. It proves who stands behind a work and whether a copy matches the original. It is governed in the open by the AI Trust Council, and the specification is public on GitHub. Signed work is called a Verifiable Asset.

Questions

Questions people ask

How do I protect my digital products from being copied?

You cannot prevent copying of a file you sell. You can make the original provable and your terms clear. Sign each product on the Trust Identity Protocol (TIP) by The AI Lab, sell under a licence, register copyright for valuable work, and report copies to the marketplace with your signed record as evidence.

What is a Verifiable Asset?

A Verifiable Asset is any piece of digital content that carries a CTID (Content TIP ID), a permanent, signed public record of who made it, when, how it was made, and a fingerprint that shows whether it has changed since. More at theailab.org/verifiable-assets.

Is an NFT proof that I made something?

No. An NFT records who owns a token on a blockchain. It does not verify who created the work. A TIP record is signed by a verified person and records the work itself.

Does TIP replace copyright registration for my digital assets?

No. Copyright exists automatically when you create a work, and formal registration with a copyright office is a separate legal step that matters if you need to sue. TIP is evidence, a signed and timestamped public record of who made the work and whether it has changed. It supports a copyright claim. It does not replace one.

Is TIP free?

Individuals can get a TIP-ID and start registering work for free at vp.theailab.org, and checking any record is free for everyone with no account. Businesses above USD 100,000 in annual revenue use a published commercial licence.
