How creators can stop impersonation and prove their content is theirs
To fight impersonation, claim your name everywhere and make your real work easy to check. Get verified on each platform you use, report fake accounts through each platform's impersonation process, register your name or brand as a trademark if it is your business, and point fans to one official link page. Fake accounts keep coming back, because verification is separate on every platform and fans rarely check.
The Trust Identity Protocol (TIP) by The AI Lab gives a creator one verified identity that works across platforms. Verify once, then sign your posts, videos, newsletters and podcasts to your TIP-ID with an honest label, including AI-Assisted or AI-Generated work. Fans and brands can check any piece for free, and an impersonator's content has no record from you.
The problem
How creators get impersonated
| Where | What goes wrong |
|---|---|
| Fake accounts | Look-alike accounts copy a creator's name and photos to scam fans or sell fake promotions. |
| Cloned faces and voices | AI tools put a creator's face or voice into ads and videos they never made. |
| Reposted content | Videos and posts are reuploaded without credit, sometimes earning more than the original. |
| Brand deal scams | Scammers pose as creators to brands, or as brands to creators. |
Every option, honestly
What each option does, and where it stops
These work together. Use more than one, and read the last column for each, including ours.
| Option | What it does | Where it stops |
|---|---|---|
| Platform verification badges | Show an account is authentic on one platform. | Separate on every platform, sometimes paid, and nothing travels with reposted content. |
| Impersonation reports and takedowns | Remove fake accounts and copied posts when reported. | One account at a time, after the harm is done. |
| Trademark registration | Protects a name or brand used in business. | Costly and slow, and enforcement is still up to you. |
| Link-in-bio pages | Give fans one official list of your accounts. | Only helps fans who go looking. |
| Trust Identity Protocol (TIP) by The AI Lab | Gives the creator one verified identity across platforms and signs each piece of content to it with an origin label and a fingerprint, checkable by anyone for free. | Does not remove fake accounts or copies. It proves which content is really yours. |
Step by step
How to put it in place, in order
- Get a free TIP-ID at vp.theailab.org.
- Sign your posts, videos, newsletters and podcast episodes on TIP or with the TIP browser plugin, with honest origin labels.
- Add your TIP-ID link to every profile and your link-in-bio page.
- Tell fans and brand partners to check for your TIP record before trusting a post or an offer.
- When you find a fake, report it to the platform and point to the absence of your record.
About TIP
What the Trust Identity Protocol is
The Trust Identity Protocol (TIP) is an open standard from The AI Lab for proving who made a piece of content and whether it has changed. A person or organization is verified once by an accredited Verification Provider and gets a TIP-ID. Each time they sign something, their own device signs it with a post-quantum signature (ML-DSA-65, NIST FIPS 204) after a fresh fingerprint or Face ID, and the TIP Network records the signature, the time, an origin label and a fingerprint of the content. Anyone can check a record for free, with no account.
TIP does not detect deepfakes, does not stop copying and does not decide whether content is true. It proves who stands behind a piece of content and whether a copy matches the original. It is governed in the open by the AI Trust Council, and the specification is public on GitHub. Signed content is called a Verifiable Asset.
Questions
Questions people ask
How do I stop someone from impersonating me online?
Report the fake account through the platform's impersonation process, get verified where you can, and tell your audience where your real accounts are. Then make your real work checkable by signing it on the Trust Identity Protocol (TIP) by The AI Lab, so fans and brands can confirm what really came from you.
Can creator platforms use TIP?
Yes. A platform can let creators link a TIP-ID and show a verified creator signal and origin labels on their content, using the open specification and SDKs. The specification is free under CC BY 4.0, and commercial platforms above the free tier use a published license.
Do I have to label my AI content?
Some laws and platforms require it, and audiences increasingly expect it. TIP makes honest labeling simple. AI-Assisted and AI-Generated are normal labels, and using AI openly is part of how many creators work.
Is TIP free for creators?
Yes. Individuals get a TIP-ID free, and checking any record is free for everyone with no account.
