Matt Abrams

Matt Abrams is the Co-Founder of $1 Billion for Trust, a broad tent effort to build the community, the infrastructure, and the capital to fund solutions that strengthen trust in information, in one another, and in critical institutions. He is an operator, investor, advisor, and board member with more than thirty years in the software industry, spanning government agencies, startups, enterprises, healthcare, and venture capital funds, and he was present at the ground floor of both the web and the analytics and business intelligence industries. The through line across all of it is the same one: working towards a trusted information environment, inside and outside the firewall of an organisation. He serves as a Venture Partner at Atypical Ventures and at TFX Capital, sits on the boards of DemocracyNext and CodeZero, and advises a number of startups solving for trust. He sits on the Advisory Board of the Trust in Media Cooperative, spearheaded by the Honorable Ellen McCarthy, whose mission is to ensure public access to high quality information, and he served on Georgetown University's Center on National Security and the Law Innovation, Security, and Governance Task Force. He is a Co-Founder of Graphite Health, a health system led public utility company led by Intermountain Healthcare, and a Co-Founder of The Decency Project, SOS Bend, and The Leave It Better Project. He is on the advisory board of Northwestern's Master of Science in Machine Learning and Data Science program and has guest lectured at Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management and McCormick School of Engineering, where he holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering. When he is not reading, writing, or working on the information and trust crisis, he is somewhere in the mountains of Oregon or at the Ben and Jerry's that he and his wife own. His contribution to the Council is the half of the trust problem that infrastructure alone does not solve: the capital, the coalition, and the institutional will it takes to get trust infrastructure adopted at scale.
